Enhanced Beta Reading
Ready to find out if your book is going to land with your ideal reader?
While a beta read is not as thorough as a developmental edit or full manuscript evaluation, Enhanced Beta Reading is a trusted, economical alternative that still provides you answers to the big questions and a reader perspective.
The Process
I curl up with coffee, the cat, and your book and read it straight through. I’ll make a few notes in the margins of my reactions as a reader—where I laughed, cried, winced, and had lightning strike moments of “oh no, something terrible is going to happen”—and point out anything I found confusing and ask questions.
Then I’ll write you a 2 to 3 page editorial letter detailing your story’s strengths and weaknesses and any light suggestions I have for you to think about for revisions.

Why call it Enhanced Beta Reading?
Because of who I am! Editing and coaching brain isn’t something I can turn off, and my years of experience and high-level professional training mean my beta read is closer to a light manuscript evaluation than a regular beta read.
Beta readers are usually your average reader, someone who loves reading in your genre and gives you a thumbs-up or thumbs-down about the general vibe of your book. They may be able to say, “Hey, there’s something not hitting for me in Chapter 20, but I don’t know exactly what. But Chapter 25 was good.” And those things aren’t bad to know. But isn’t knowing why nice?
I’m specific. If something isn’t working, I’m going to be able to tell you why. You’ll also get a potential solution! Maybe it’ll be something about pacing, a forgotten plot point, a character who needs some extra love, or even information you give later in the book that might make more of an impact earlier.
Any extra benefits to an Enhanced Beta Read?
Always! I offer an optional 40-minute coaching call after I read your book and give you the feedback so we can sit down, chat, and troubleshoot challenges in real time. These calls are great for sparking ideas and relieving revision anxiety, because we actively work to reduce overwhelm and find extra solutions. Sometimes talking out a problem is exactly what you need to find the best way forward for yourself and your story.
