FAQ

Have some questions? I have some answers!

Please carefully read the FAQ below before submitting a contact form.

Are there any genres or types of writing you do not edit or coach?
I don’t edit or coach splatterpunk, gratuitous gore/torture, extreme horror, or Christian fiction. I also do not work with graphic novels, stage plays, or screenplays.

Why do you require Zoom for main communications?
Mainly time. I’m a certified professional book coach and editor, not a professional email writer. But the second, and more important, reason is people get a better, more nuanced, understanding of my notes, comments, and suggestions on their work when I talk to them directly. Potential misunderstandings are cleared up faster and with better clarity. And finally, we have an active conversation! Email doesn’t allow for any of that. And then there’s the added bonus of accountability. If you have to show up at a day and time with an expected amount of work, you’re more likely to get it done.

Do you provide marketing or publishing help?
For any editing service, no. For book coaching, I provide some assistance in the form of helping you choose between traditional or Indie publishing, and I’ll also do research and give advice on where your book might fit in the current marketplace.

Do you guarantee your work as an editor when doing line or copy editing?
If an editor guarantees error-free work or perfection, they are not being honest. Editors are humans, and errors occur. Books are published, Indie or traditionally, every day with minor errors. Of course, it’s my job to be as precise as possible—and I excel at my job—but I am not infallible.

What’s your project turnaround for editing?
My turnaround times differ depending on which type of editing you choose, but developmental editing is typically around six (6) weeks for a 50,000-word manuscript.

Do I have to sign a contract?
When requesting a sample edit and/or discovery call, you will read and agree to a basic Terms of Service. This is required to schedule. If you decide we’ll be a great fit and want to move forward, you’ll be presented with a customized contract to sign before we get started. This is true for both editing and coaching.

Do you accept ESL (English as a Second Language) clients?
Absolutely! And feel free to reach out via the contact page with any questions about this and how my editing process works a little differently with ESL authors.
